Fiumicino Airport recorded 4.4 million passengers in April; the Northeast Airport Hub handled over 1.6 million passengers in April 2025; in April 2025, 985k passengers passed through the airports of Bari, Brindisi and Foggia between arrivals and departures.

The capital’s airport system, which includes Leonardo da Vinci Airport in Fiumicino and Giovan Battista Pastine Airport in Ciampino, closed April with a 6% increase compared to 2024, reaching a total of 4.7 million passengers.
In detail, Rome Fiumicino airport handled 4.4 million passengers, recording a 6% increase compared to the same period last year.Point-to-point traffic, i.e. direct flights without intermediate stops, reached 3.7 million passengers, an increase of 4% compared to April 2024. Short-haul flights recorded approximately 3.5 million passengers, an increase of 5% compared to 2024.
This increase is linked to two factors: on the one hand, the greater influx of passengers within the European Union and, on the other, the growth in short-haul traffic outside the EU, particularly thanks to the increase in travellers to the United Kingdom and Turkey.
Intercontinental traffic showed marked growth compared to April 2024, up by a significant 12%. Particularly significant was the volume of passengers from North America, which recorded the most significant growth this month, exceeding April 2024 figures by 8%.
These results were made possible by the increase in Norse routes, which since April, in addition to its established route to New York, also serves Los Angeles, and by the resumption of flights by Canadian airlines such as Westjet and Air Transat to Calgary and Montreal, respectively, after the break during the winter season.
The Arabian Peninsula also performed well, with a 19% increase in passengers in April compared to 2024, thanks to a 35% increase in flights connecting this area of the Middle East with Fiumicino airport compared to 2024.
Excellent results were also achieved for connections with Central and South America, which saw a 15% increase in traffic compared to the same month last year, with flights to São Paulo and Buenos Aires continuing to show a growth trend.
Ciampino’s Giovan Battista Pastine airport closed April with 336,000 passengers.

The Northeast Airport Hub (Venice, Treviso, Verona and Brescia airports) handled over 5.2 million passengers in the first four months of 2025, up 6.3% compared to the same period in 2024. In April, over 1.6 million passengers were handled, up 6.4% on the same month last year.
Venice airport exceeded 1 million passengers in April, an increase of +4.4% compared to 2024. Over 3.2 million passengers were recorded in the first four months of the year, +3.8% compared to the previous year.
After the domestic market, with approximately 210,000 passengers per month, the main international markets were Spain, Great Britain and France.
The main destination cities were London, Paris and Madrid.
As for long-haul flights, almost 200,000 passengers were carried in the first four months between Venice and the United States, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and China.
Treviso airport handled over 280,000 passengers in April and over 980,000 in the first four months, an increase of +6.2% over the same period last year.
Albania, Spain and Romania were the main markets during the month. Over 43,000 passengers flew between Treviso and Tirana, the airport’s main destination, in April, thanks to Ryanair and Wizz Air operations.
The latest passenger profile surveys showed that 18% of airport users travelled to visit relatives and friends (VFR).
April was also a record month for Verona airport, with over 300,000 passengers, an increase of +12% compared to April 2024 traffic volumes.
The number of passengers rose to over 1 million, a positive trend of +15.7% compared to the first four months of 2024.
In addition to the domestic market, with 120,000 passengers during the month and a 40% share of total traffic, the main international markets were the United Kingdom, Germany, Spain and Egypt. Traffic to international destinations grew by +13% compared to 2024.
The most popular destinations for passengers during the month were Catania, London and Palermo.

In April, 690,947 passengers arrived and departed from Bari airport, representing a 10.37% increase compared to the 626,007 passengers recorded in the same month of 2024. Domestic traffic increased by 3.39%, while international traffic, with 380,475 passengers, grew by 15.25% compared to 330,120 passengers last year. This resulted in a 16.60% increase in total passenger traffic for January-April 2025, which stood at 2,060,030 compared to 1,766,688 in the first four months of last year.
For Brindisi airport, April closed with a +1.47% increase, with 288,533 passengers compared to 284,353 in April 2024. This meant that in the first four months, traffic rose from 792,207 passengers in 2024 to 842,780 in 2025, an increase of 6.38%.
For Foggia airport, in the first four months of 2025, there were 24,415 passengers, 101.96% more than in the first four months of 2024, when there were 12,089 passengers. In April, 5,624 passengers arrived and departed from Foggia, compared to 4,533 in April 2024, an increase of 24.07%.
In the first four months of 2025, the total number of passengers at the three Apulian airports was 2,925,949, an increase of 13.81% compared to the 2,570,984 passengers recorded in the first four months of 2024.
