The Roman airport system closed the month of October with 4.9 million passengers; the North-Eastern Airport Hub recorded almost 1.7 million passengers in October; overall, between Bari and Brindisi the month of October recorded more than 1 million passengers.

The Roman airport system, consisting of Rome Fiumicino’s Leonardo da Vinci and Ciampino’s Giovan Battista Pastine airports, with 4.9 million passengers passing through during the month of October, recorded growth of 11% compared to the same month in 2019 and 15% compared to October 2023.
Rome Fiumicino Airport, the capital’s main airport, reached 4.5 million passengers, up 16% on both 2019 and 2023.
Point-to-point traffic, i.e. direct arrivals and departures without connecting flights at an intermediate airport, continues to perform well: with 3.9 million, it marked a 29% increase over the pre-pandemic period and a 15% increase over 2023.
Short-haul traffic, with some 3.6 million passengers, achieved a 14% growth over 2023, driven by EU traffic, which is up 18%.
Intercontinental traffic continued to achieve excellent results during the month of October – increasing by 21% compared to 2023 – driven by flights to North America which, in total, counted up to 35 daily departures to 16 destinations, with the United States and Canada registering +12% compared to 2023 and +36% compared to 2019.
Central South America, for the second consecutive month, recorded higher values than 2019, up 11% and further up on September, thanks to São Paulo, the main destination for the Latin American market and the economic centre of Brazil.
Very positive results also for destinations on the Arabian Peninsula, which further improved its performance: +35% compared to 2019 and +18% on 2023, thanks also to the additional contribution of the new route to Dubai, inaugurated by ITA Airways on 27 October, and the new routes to Jeddah and Riyadh, not operated by the national airline during 2023.
Ciampino’s G.B. Pastine airport closed the month of October with 332,000 passengers passing through.
Polo Aeroportuale Nordest (VCE, TSF, VRN, VBS)
The North-Eastern Airport Hub, which includes the airports of Venice, Treviso, Verona and Brescia, handled around 16 million passengers between January and October 2024, with a positive trend of +2.4% compared to the same period in 2023 (and with an almost complete recovery of traffic from the same period in 2019). In October, almost 1.7 million passengers were recorded
(+2.4% compared to October 2023, +3% over the corresponding month of 2019).
Venice Airport recorded over 10 million passengers since the beginning of the year and over 1.1 million in October. The increase was +2% compared to 2023.
With over 200 thousand passengers (19% of total traffic), the domestic market was confirmed as the leading market in the month, followed by France, Great Britain, Spain and Germany.
Paris, London and Madrid were the main destination cities chosen by passengers in October.
Over 5 thousand passengers flew between Venice and Shanghai during the month, thanks to China Eastern’s direct operations.
Total passengers on long-haul destinations operating at the airport (United States, Canada, United Arab Emirates, charters from South Korea) amounted to over 800 thousand in the first 10 months of the year.
Treviso airport handled 266,000 passengers in October and around 2.6 million in the first 10 months of 2024, in line with the figures for the same period last year.
The main market in October was Spain, followed by Albania, Romania, Poland and Belgium.
Main destinations were Tirana, Bucharest, Brussels, Malta and Malaga.
In the 2024/25 winter season there will be 40 destinations available from Treviso with direct connections (flights operated by Ryanair and Wizz Air).
Verona airport handled over 300 thousand passengers in October and almost 3.3 million since the beginning of the year, with an increase of +6.8% compared to the volumes handled in the first 10 months of 2023 (+9.6% in October alone).
The main reference markets for Verona airport in October, after the domestic market (40% of total traffic), were Great Britain, Germany and Spain. Almost 14 thousand passengers travelled between Verona and Egypt (120 thousand since the beginning of the year).
Passengers’ favourite destination cities were Catania, Palermo and London.
The IATA Summer season just ended (April/October) handled about 2.7 million passengers, an historical record in Verona for the summer season.
Rete Aeroportuale Pugliese (BRI, BDS, FOG, TAR)
In the first ten months of 2024, Bari and Brindisi airports handled a total of 9,265,954 passengers between arrivals and departures.
Overall between Bari and Brindisi the month of October recorded, between arrivals and departures, 1,023,355 passengers.
In October Bari airport recorded 702,600 passengers (+15.6%) over the same month of the previous year.
In addition to the national line pax, which recorded 318,920 passengers, the international line market recorded 380,071 pax.
Brindisi airport, on the other hand, recorded 320,755 passengers in October (+6.7%) compared to October 2023.
Domestic line traffic recorded 218,585 pax, while international line traffic recorded 99,777 pax.
Foggia Airport recorded 5,627 passengers, up by (48%) compared to October 2023, which had been 3,791. In the first ten months of 2024, a total of 49,637 pax travelled, compared to 42,308 in the same period of 2023.
A total of 9,315,591 passengers passed through the three airports of Bari, Brindisi and Foggia between arrivals and departures.
