Fiumicino Airport recorded 4.8 million passengers in May 2026; The North-Eastern Airport Hub handled over 1.9 million passengers in may 2026; The airports of Bari, Brindisi and Foggia handled more than 1.2 million passengers between arrivals and departures in may 2026.

The capital’s airport system, which comprises Leonardo da Vinci Airport in Fiumicino and Giovan Battista Pastine Airport in Ciampino, recorded a total of 5.1 million passengers in May 2026.
More specifically, Rome Fiumicino’s intercontinental airport handled 4.8 million passengers, marking a 2.5% increase compared with the same period in 2025.
Short- and medium-haul flights totalled 3.8 million passengers, representing a 2.9% increase compared with May 2025. This increase was driven mainly by the EU segment (5%), supported in particular by markets such as Poland, Romania and Spain. The short-haul non-EU flight sector also saw growth, with traffic to Egypt and the United Kingdom rising by 16% and 9% respectively compared with May 2025.
As for long-haul flights, North America remains the main market for Fiumicino Airport, recording a 9% increase compared with May 2025. Among the month’s new developments are the new ITA Airways flight to Houston – a destination not previously served from Rome – and the arrival of Delta Airlines on the route to Seattle alongside Alaska Airlines.
Significant increases in passenger numbers compared with last year were also recorded on established routes such as Atlanta, Detroit, San Francisco, Montreal and Miami. In particular, for the latter destination, growth compared with May 2025 was also driven by the launch of new flights operated by American Airlines, which have been running alongside those of ITA Airways since last March.
In addition to North America, Fiumicino Airport has also seen significant growth in other long-haul markets. In particular, traffic to the Far East grew by 22% compared with last year, driven in part by the earlier-than-planned launch in 2025 of Qantas Airways’ route to Perth, as well as by the contribution of services to Dhaka and Delhi and the route to Hong Kong, which was launched last June.
Traffic to Central and South America also showed a positive trend, with a 7% increase compared with May 2025, driven in particular by the performance of the route to São Paulo, where the increase in flight frequencies led to a 17% rise in passenger numbers.
Ciampino’s Giovan Battista Pastine Airport closed the month of May with 333,000 passengers passing through.

Passenger numbers at the North-East Hub totalled over 7.5 million in the first five months of the year, up 7% on the same period in 2025. In May, over 1.9 million passengers were handled, representing a 6% increase on the previous year.
Venice also broke its all-time record in May, with nearly 1.24 million passengers, up 7.9% on May 2025. Year-to-date, passenger numbers stood at over 4.7 million, an increase of 8% compared with the first five months of the previous year.
With over 220,000 passengers, domestic traffic accounted for 18% of the total for the month. Italy is the main market, followed by the United Kingdom, France, Spain and Germany.
There have been almost 50,000 passengers travelling directly between Venice and China since the start of the year, in addition to over 150,000 passengers on non-stop flights to North America (the United States and Canada).
Treviso Airport recorded over 290,000 passengers during the month, up 1.7% compared to 2025. Almost 1.3 million passengers used the airport between January and May, with a positive trend of +1.2% over the same period last year.
The leading market is Spain, with passenger numbers up by +14%, totalling over 56,000 passengers for the month and over 250,000 year-to-date (favourite Spanish destination: Valencia). Albania and Romania follow.
Main destinations: Tirana, Brussels and Bucharest.
Verona Airport closed the month with over 380,000 passengers and a 5.4% increase compared to 2025; there were over 1.5 million passengers in the first five months of 2026, representing an 11.3% increase compared to the January–May 2025 period.
Domestic traffic, in line with last year, totalled 133,000 passengers, accounting for 35 per cent of total traffic, whilst the remaining 65 per cent was international, with almost 250,000 passengers.
The UK remains the leading international market, with over 90,000 passengers, representing a 24% increase on the previous year, followed by the Albanian market (+69% on 2025, with almost 30,000 passengers).

Passenger numbers for both arrivals and departures at Bari, Brindisi and Foggia airports rose in May to 1,263,117, representing an increase of
14.61% compared with the same month in 2025, when the total stood at 1,102,115 passengers.
At Bari Airport, the total number of passengers, including arrivals and departures, was 872,654, representing a rise of 15.41% compared with the 756,151 recorded in May 2025.
As for Brindisi’s Salento Airport, May ended with 385,873 passengers, an increase of +13.66% compared to the 339,494
in May 2025.
Finally, the number of passengers arriving and departing in May 2026 from Foggia’s ‘Gino Lisa’ airport stood at 4,657, whilst in May 2025 the figure was 6,470,
a decrease of –28.02%.
