In March 2026, the capital’s airport system, comprising Rome Fiumicino’s Leonardo da Vinci Airport and Ciampino’s Giovan Battista Pastine Airport, recorded a total passenger traffic of 4.3 million, an increase of 0.5% compared with the same period in 2025.
In detail, Rome Fiumicino’s intercontinental airport, Italy’s main aviation hub, recorded over 3.9 million passengers, representing a 0.6% increase compared with March 2025.
International short- and medium-haul markets recorded a 2.7% increase in passenger volumes compared with the same period the previous year. The non-EU flights segment, in particular, recorded 6% growth, driven by the United Kingdom (13%) and Egypt (51%).
Long-haul traffic, overall, remained in line with last year’s levels
following the suspension of flights in the Persian Gulf region.
North America, in particular, recorded significant growth (11% compared with March 2025), thanks to increased frequencies compared with last year on routes to New York, Atlanta, Chicago, Miami and Dallas.
During the reference period, operations also resumed on several routes to North America, including Dallas and Charlotte operated by American Airlines, San Francisco operated by ITA Airways and United Airlines, as well as Detroit and Minneapolis operated by Delta Airlines, Denver operated by United Airlines and Calgary operated by WestJet, some of which were not in operation in March 2025.
The Far East recorded a 37% increase compared with March 2025, thanks mainly to increased frequencies on routes to Beijing, Bangkok and Dhaka. The route to Delhi also showed significant passenger growth, thanks to increased frequencies by ITA Airways and the resumption of Air India’s direct flight, which returned to operation after a six-year hiatus. The reopening of the Cathay Pacific flight to Hong Kong is also worth noting.

Traffic figures updated through the first quarter of 2026 confirm the upward trend in traffic at the Northeast Hub airports, showing a 10% increase compared to the first three months of 2025, with over 3.9 million passengers.
Venice Airport also broke its all-time record in March, with over 900,000 passengers, a 7% increase compared to the same month in 2025. Year-to-date, passenger traffic reached nearly 2.4 million, a 10% increase compared to the first three months of the previous year. Over the past 12 months, approximately 12.1 million passengers have passed through the airport.
The traffic results were also bolstered by the winter extension of the flight between Venice and New York JFK, which further boosted global connectivity.
The main market was domestic, with 480,000 passengers and a 20% share of the total. Top international markets: Spain, the United Kingdom, and France.
London, Paris, and Madrid were the most popular routes among Marco Polo passengers during the quarter.
The share of non-Schengen traffic at Venice was 29% between January and March.
Treviso Airport recorded nearly 250,000 passengers for the month, in line with March 2025. In the first quarter of 2026, passenger numbers exceeded 700,000, a 1.4% increase over the previous year.
The leading market was Spain (+8% compared to the same period in 2025), followed by Albania and Romania.
The main destinations in the first three months of 2026 were Tirana with nearly 100,000 passengers, Bucharest, Brussels, Valencia, and Prague.
With 45 destinations in 21 countries served during the 2026 summer season, Ryanair and Wizz Air’s operations ensure the availability of an extensive network, meeting the needs of the region’s ethnic, business, and tourist communities.
Verona Airport closed the month of March with over 290,000 passengers and an 11% increase over the previous year; there were over 810,000 passengers in the first three months of 2026, with a double-digit increase of 17% compared to 2025.
The domestic market, the largest in terms of passenger volume, recorded nearly 300,000 passengers year-to-date (+13% compared to the previous year, accounting for 36% of the total).
The UK market remained the top international market, followed by Germany.
The most popular route for Catullo passengers was Catania, with over 100,000 passengers in the quarter, followed by London and Palermo.
Nearly 50,000 passengers were carried on long-haul destinations (Tanzania, the Dominican Republic, Kenya, Cape Verde, Oman, the Maldives, Mexico, Senegal, Madagascar) by Neos, which remained the leader in leisure traffic at the airport.

As for Brindisi’s Salento Airport, March closed with 217,746 passengers, an increase of 3.92% compared to the 209,526 recorded in March 2025.
Finally, the number of passengers arriving at and departing from Foggia’s “Gino Lisa” airport: there were 7,088 in March 2025, while in March 2026 there were 4,256, a decrease of –39.95%.
