The Roman airport system, which includes Leonardo da Vinci Airport in Fiumicino and Giovan Battista Pastine Airport in Ciampino, closed the month of January with an increase of 10% compared to 2024, reaching a total of 3.6 million passengers.
In particular, Rome Fiumicino, the main airport hub in Italy, recorded 3.3 million passengers, confirming the growth trend that characterised last year, with an increase of 11% compared to January 2024.
Point-to-point traffic, i.e. direct flights without intermediate stops, reached almost 2.7 million passengers, an increase of 13% compared to the same month last year.
Looking at short-haul flights, there were about 2.6 million passengers, an increase of 11% compared to 2024, thanks to the increase in flows within the European Union, which marked a +14%.
As for intercontinental traffic, a growth trend was confirmed with an increase of 12% compared to 2024, thanks above all to the results obtained in the Far East market which, in the first month of the year, recorded passenger volumes 20% higher than last year.
Excellent results were also recorded in destinations on the Arabian Peninsula, up 16% compared to January 2024, thanks also to the new connections introduced during 2024 by the Hub Carrier ITA Airways, and the new connection activated last December by Oman Air to Muscat.
Excellent performance also for connections with the African continent which, since the beginning of the year, with the opening of the first connection to Tripoli by ITA Airways, is increasingly connected to the main Italian airport, with an increase of 9% compared to the same month of 2024.
Growth trend also with respect to Central and South America, which recorded a 7% increase in passengers compared to 2024, with Buenos Aires exceeding last year’s values by 17%.
Giovan Battista Pastine Airport in Ciampino closed the month of January with 315,000 passengers travelling through it.

The North-East Airport Hub, which includes the airports of Venice, Treviso, Verona and Brescia, handled around 1.1 million passengers in January 2025, an increase of +6.4% on the previous year.
Venice airport handled over 650 thousand passengers in the opening month of the year, a positive trend of +2.9% compared to the corresponding month of 2024.
The domestic market was confirmed as the main reference market, with 145 thousand passengers (22% of total traffic). The main international markets were Spain, Great Britain and France.
The favourite destination cities in January were London, Paris and Madrid.
Treviso airport handled 229 thousand passengers, an increase of +9.4% compared to January 2024.
Almost all passengers travelled on international routes. The main market was Spain (with over 47 thousand passengers, Valencia being the top destination), followed by Albania and Romania.
The main destinations were Tirana, Bucharest and Brussels.
Verona airport recorded over 217 thousand passengers during the month of January, an increase of +14.6% compared to the same month last year.
Domestic traffic, Catullo’s main market, contributed 40% (87 thousand passengers). The second market was the English market, followed by Germany, Albania and Egypt.
The main destination was Catania (30 thousand passengers), followed by Palermo and London.

In January, the total number of passengers arriving and departing at the airports of Bari, Brindisi and Foggia was 594,050, an increase of 13.3% compared to the same month in 2024 when the total was 523,808 passengers.
Bari airport: the total number of passengers, including arrivals and departures, was 419,582, equal to +15.1% compared to 364,437 in 2024.
As for the Salento airport in Brindisi, the month of January ended with 167,972 passengers, +7.3% compared to 156,816 in January 2024. Passengers.
