In August 2025, the capital’s airport system – consisting of Fiumicino ‘Leonardo da Vinci’ and Ciampino ‘Giovan Battista Pastine’ airports – reached 5.5 million passengers, marking a 2% increase compared to the same month last year.
Fiumicino Airport welcomed approximately 5.2 million passengers, up 1.5% compared to August 2024, marking the highest monthly traffic level ever.
Continental Europe remains the most significant geographical area for traffic growth, with an increase of 3% compared to the same period last year.
Long-haul traffic at Fiumicino continued to perform very well, with an overall increase of 5%, confirming its position as one of the main drivers of growth at the airport. Among intercontinental destinations, North America remained the area with the highest number of passengers, recording a +1% increase compared to the same period last year.
The Arabian Peninsula also recorded a 7% increase on an annual basis. This growth was supported by the expansion of Emirates flights, which reached three daily direct connections between Rome Fiumicino and Dubai from the beginning of June, together with ITA Airways connections to Dubai and Oman Air connections to Muscat, which were not operational in the same period in 2024.
Central and South America grew by 10%, with São Paulo among the most important destinations. Long-haul African routes also performed well, showing a 13% increase, driven by the increase in Ethiopian Airlines’ connections to Addis Ababa.
Finally, traffic to the Far East exceeded August 2024 volumes by 4%, supported by the return, starting in June, of Cathay Pacific’s direct flights to Hong Kong and the launch of new ITA Airways connections to Bangkok, which were absent in the same period of 2024.
Ciampino’s Giovan Battista Pastine Airport closed August with 354,000 passengers passing through.
Looking at Rome Fiumicino airport, passenger traffic exceeded 5 million, up 0.1% compared to the same period last year.
Long-haul traffic performed particularly well, growing by 5%. North America remained the main market, with a 3% increase over the same period in 2024, making it the area with the highest growth in absolute terms.
This was followed by the Arabian Peninsula market, which recorded growth of 7% compared to July 2024, supported by an increase in Emirates frequencies, which since the beginning of June has increased direct connections between Rome Fiumicino and Dubai to three daily direct flights. Additional ITA Airways flights to Dubai and Jeddah, which were not available last year, also contributed to this growth.
Connections with Central and South America also performed very well, recording an 8% increase compared to July 2024.
Long-haul African routes grew by 14% year-on-year, also supported by an increase in Ethiopian Airlines connections to Addis Ababa.
The Far East market also grew, exceeding 2024 traffic volumes by 4%. Contributing to this result were the return last month of Cathay Pacific’s direct flights to Hong Kong and the availability of ITA Airways connections to Bangkok, which were absent in the same period last year.
Ciampino’s Giovan Battista Pastine Airport closed July with 351,000 passengers passing through.

The Northeast Airport Hub (Venice, Treviso, Verona and Brescia airports) handled 12.9 million passengers in the first eight months of 2025, up 4% compared to 2024. In August, over 2 million passengers were handled, up 2.4% on the same month last year.
Venice airport exceeded 1.2 million passengers in August, in line with the trend for 2024. Over 7.94 million passengers were handled, up 1.9% on the previous year.
The international segment accounted for 80% of total traffic during the month.
According to the latest passenger profile survey results, the incoming component at the airport is 62%.
After the domestic market, with almost 240,000 passengers, the main international markets were Spain, Great Britain and Germany.
The most popular destinations for passengers in August were London, Madrid and Barcelona.
Approximately 440,000 passengers have been recorded since the beginning of the year on direct flights between Venice and North America, thanks in part to the new destinations of Washington and Dallas, to which must be added over 280,000 passengers between Venice and the Middle/Far East (Dubai, Doha, Shanghai).
Treviso airport handled over 310,000 passengers during the month (+5.2% compared to August 2024) and almost 2.2 million in the first eight months of the year, +5.9% on the same period last year.
Spain, Albania, Romania, Poland and Belgium were the main markets during the month.
Tirana, Bucharest and Brussels were the most popular destinations for passengers at the airport.
There were over 310,000 passengers on the Treviso-Tirana route between January and August.
Verona airport exceeded its historic record of 500,000 passengers in August, an increase of +7.6% compared to the same month in 2024. Over 2.77 million passengers were recorded, a positive trend of +8.9% compared to 2024.
The domestic market remained the main market, with over 170,000 passengers in the month, followed by Great Britain, Germany, Spain and Greece.
Traffic to international destinations showed a positive trend of +10% in the first eight months of 2025.
London, Olbia, Catania, Palermo and Tirana were the most popular destinations for passengers.
Rete Aeroportuale Pugliese (BRI, BDS, FOG, TAR)
In the first eight months of 2025, a total of 7,753,878 passengers (+8.31%) passed through the airports of Puglia between Bari, Brindisi and Foggia, compared to 7,158,765 in the same period of 2024.
In August 2025, Bari airport recorded 888,339 passengers (+7.48%) compared to the same month of the previous year. The domestic market recorded 293,335 passengers, while the international market recorded 574,440 passengers. The Greek market, with 70,000 passengers, is the main international market.
Brindisi Airport, on the other hand, recorded 405,827 passengers (+1.61%) in August 2025 compared to August 2024. Domestic traffic recorded 255,881 passengers, an increase (+3.46%) compared to the same month in 2024. International traffic recorded 145,616 passengers compared to 149,259 in August 2024, a decrease (-2.44%). The main international market was Switzerland with 48,000 passengers.
Foggia Airport recorded 7,285 passengers in August, an increase of (+11.43%) compared to the same month in 2024.
