In June, Fiumicino and Ciampino airports recorded 5 million passengers.
In the first six months of 2024, nearly 8.5 million passengers used the Northeastern Airport Hub’s airports; Apulian airports handled 4.7M passengers in the first half of 2024.

In June, Rome’s airport system, which includes Fiumicino’s Leonardo da Vinci and Ciampino’s G.B. Pastine airports, reached a total of 5 million passengers, up 6% compared to June 2019 and 19% compared to the same period last year.
Looking at Rome Fiumicino Airport, Italy’s main airport surpassed the traffic figures recorded in June 2019 by 11 per cent and June 2023 by 20 per cent, recording 4.7 million passengers. In June, Italy’s main airport also surpassed several times the historical record of passengers passing through in a single day, reaching over 173,000 daily passengers on Sunday 23 June.
The achievement of these results was possible thanks above all to the contribution of intercontinental traffic, which grew by around 30% compared to last year, with North America leading the way as the main destination for flows with, in June, up to 37 daily departures from Fiumicino to a total of 17 destinations, including Mexico City. Traffic to the United States and Canada is up 34% compared to pre-pandemic levels and 22% compared to 2023, with New York as the favourite destination for travellers, connected to Fiumicino by 11 daily departures.
The Arabian Peninsula continues to record high passenger volumes, up 20% compared to the same month in 2023. The number of connections to the capital is also on the rise, thanks to the recent introduction of a flight to Riyadh by ITA Airways, which activated its first connection to the Arabian Peninsula on 2 June.
Important news for flights to Africa, growing with more than 40 per cent of the volumes recorded both in 2019 and 2023: with the inauguration of the route to Accra on 6 June, served by ITA Airways, the African market has increased the number of connections with the Roman airport.
The direct connection between continental Europe and Australia is confirmed, with Qantas returning to the Rome-Perth/Sidney route at the end of June, following the brilliant performance recorded since the inaugural flight in June 2022.
Central South America continues to record growing numbers, especially on the route to Buenos Aires, which this month exceeded the 2019 figures by 5%.
Turning to short- and medium-haul, international destinations in the European Union recorded traffic values that were 25% higher than in 2019 and 18% higher than in 2023, thanks to the contribution of seasonal activity typical of the peak summer months, which saw the reactivation of connections to leisure destinations such as the Greek and Spanish islands.
Ciampino Airport G.B. Pastine closed the month of June with 325,000 passengers passing through the airport.

In the first six months of 2024, nearly 8.5 million passengers used the airports of the Northeast Airport Hub (Venice, Treviso, Verona and Brescia), up +3% compared to the same period in 2023 and in line with the trend in 2019. More than 1.8 million passengers were handled in June, +2.6% over the same month of the previous year.
Venice Airport also exceeded 1.1 million passengers in June, +2.2% over the corresponding month in 2023. Progressive passengers in the first half of the year were nearly 5.4 million, +2.1% over the previous year (+2% over 2019). Main international markets were Britain, France, Spain and Germany. Italy remains the leading market, with over 1 million passengers and a 19% share of total traffic.
The main destinations chosen by passengers were Paris CDG, Barcelona, Madrid, Amsterdam and Catania.
In terms of new flights, during June American Airlines restored its daily non-stop flight to Chicago and Qatar Airways resumed direct operations between Venice and Doha. Air Europa has reactivated connections between ‘Marco Polo’ and Madrid with two daily frequencies, which also allow flights to major destinations in Central and South America.
Treviso Airport handled 270 thousand passengers in June (-3% compared to the same month in 2023) and more than 1.4 million in the first six months of the year, in line with the same period of the previous year (recovering 89% of traffic from the same period in 2019).
The airport’s network is mainly international: Spain (12 destinations), Albania, Romania, Poland and Belgium were the top markets during the first half of the year.
Main destination between January and June was Tirana, with over 200 thousand passengers, followed by Bucharest and Brussels CRL.
Verona Airport broke the historical monthly record again in June, handling over 420 thousand passengers (+8% compared to June 2023). Progressive passengers were over 1.6 million, a positive trend of +8% compared to the first half of 2023. Both during the month and at progressive, 2019 volumes were exceeded.
With over 600 thousand passengers in the first half of the year, main market was reconfirmed as the domestic market, followed by Britain, Germany, Spain and Albania.
Catania (over 170 thousand passengers), London and Palermo were the favorite destination cities for Catullo’s passengers.
Passengers on long-haul destinations operating at the airport numbered about 55 thousand.

Apulia’s airports handled 4.7M passengers in the first half of 2024, an increase of +6% compared to 2023 and a sharp rise compared to 2019 (+27%). In June, over 1.1M passengers were handled, up 9% on the same month last year. The average load factor was over 80%.
Bari airport recorded 714 thousand passengers in June, a significant increase compared to both 2023 (+9%) and 2019 (+37%). This growth was mainly driven by the international segment (404 thousand passengers), up 19% compared to 2023 and 58% compared to 2019.
In the first half of the year, 3.2M passengers travelled (+7% compared to 2023 and +27% compared to 2019). After the domestic market, with 311,000 passengers in June, the main international market was Germany (53,000 passengers).
Brindisi airport recorded 366 thousand passengers in June, a significant increase compared to both 2023 (+9%) and 2019 (+29%). This growth was mainly driven by the international segment (120 thousand passengers), up 8% compared to 2023 and 45% compared to 2019. In the first half of the year, 1.5M passengers travelled (+5% compared to 2023 and +24% compared to 2019).
After the domestic market, with 245,000 passengers in June, the main international market was Switzerland (35,000 passengers).
The Foggia airport, thanks to the activation of scheduled connections by the Lumiwings company in September 2022, recorded 7 thousand passengers in June, a significant increase compared to 2023 (+12%).
In the first half of the year, 24 thousand passengers travelled (+19% compared to 2023).
