Fiumicino Airport recorded 4.4 million passengers in April; The North-Eastern Airport Hub handled over 3.9 million passengers in the first quarter of 2026; The airports of Bari, Brindisi and Foggia handled more than 1,096,625 passengers between arrivals and departures in April 2026.

The capital’s airport system, comprising Leonardo da Vinci Airport in Fiumicino and Giovan Battista Pastine Airport in Ciampino, closed the month of April with a total of 4.7 million passengers.
In detail, Rome Fiumicino International Airport handled 4.4 million passengers, in line with the same period last year.
In the short- and medium-haul sector, approximately 3.5 million passengers were recorded, representing a 1.4% increase compared to 2025. This growth was driven mainly by the EU segment, which recorded a 4% increase, thanks to contributions from key markets such as Belgium, Greece, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Poland and Romania.
Long-haul traffic showed significant growth of 5% to North America, 25% to the Far East and 4% to Central/South America.
North America saw the resumption, in April, of seasonal flights by Norse Atlantic to New York and by Air Transat to Montreal and Toronto, as well as the launch of a new route to Seattle by Alaska Airlines. The latter chose Rome Fiumicino as its first European hub as part of its intercontinental growth strategy.
Excellent performance was also recorded on established routes, including Toronto (+16%), San Francisco (+10%), Chicago (+6%) and Miami – where traffic grew by 71% compared to April 2025 thanks to the arrival of American Airlines alongside ITA Airways from March 2026.
Also worth noting are the services to Denver (United Airlines) and to Detroit and Minneapolis (Delta Airlines), which began operating this year as early as April, a month earlier than last year.
As for the Far East, there was an excellent performance on routes to Delhi, boosted by the return of Air India from March 2026, as well as on services to Beijing, Seoul, Shanghai and Hong Kong, the latter of which was absent in April 2025.
Growth in Central and South America was driven by the route to São Paulo, where increased frequencies led to a 13% rise in passenger volumes.
Giovan Battista Pastine Airport in Ciampino closed the month of April with 321,000 passengers passing through.

The Northeast Hub closed the first four months of the year with over 5.6 million passengers, an 8% increase compared to the first four months of 2025. In April, the airport handled over 1.7 million passengers in total, marking a 4% increase over the previous year.
Venice Airport broke its all-time record for the month, with over 1.1 million passengers, a 4.5% increase over 2025. Year-to-date, passenger traffic reached nearly 3.5 million, an 8% increase compared to the previous year.
After the domestic market (19% of the total with over 210,000 passengers), the main market was Spain, followed by the United Kingdom and France, all of which saw double-digit growth during the month.
The top destination was London, with over 100,000 passengers, followed by Paris and Barcelona.
The conflict in the Middle East led to a review of flights to that region, with operations suspended in March. Emirates resumed service in April with three weekly flights and has been operating daily again since May. Qatar Airways, on the other hand, suspended operations to Venice until the end of September, while Saudia canceled its short-term summer schedule.
Treviso Airport recorded over 280,000 passengers for the month, in line with April 2025. Nearly 1 million passengers traveled between January and April, a 1% increase over the same period the previous year. The top market was Spain, with seven destinations, followed by Albania and Romania. Poland, the fourth-largest market, was directly connected to Treviso via six non-stop routes.
The main destinations were Tirana, Brussels, and Bucharest.
Noteworthy is the data on traffic with the Baltic Republics (Latvia & Lithuania), which recorded over 9,000 passengers in April. Also noteworthy is the traffic data between Treviso and Skopje, with nearly 4,000 passengers on available direct flights.
Verona Airport closed the month with over 320,000 passengers and a 5.6% increase over the previous year; passenger numbers exceeded 1.13 million in the first four months of 2026, marking a double-digit increase of 13.5% compared to 2025.
Domestic traffic, the largest segment by volume with over 120,000 passengers, accounts for 38% of total traffic and is in line with last year. The international segment, with over 200,000 passengers, recorded an 11% increase compared to 2025.
The United Kingdom is the leading international market, thanks to the routes served (London, Manchester, Bristol, Birmingham, and Edinburgh). The third-largest market remains Albania, which, with the Tirana route, recorded nearly 30,000 passengers in April.
With the start of the summer season, new routes were launched: Comiso (July 2) by Volotea; Trapani (July 2) and Tirana (July 7) by Ryanair.

Passenger numbers for arrivals and departures at the airports of Bari, Brindisi, and Foggia rose in April to 1,096,625, an increase of 11.3% compared to the same month in 2025, when the total was 985,099 passengers.
For Bari Airport, the total number of passengers, including arrivals and departures, was 761,297, representing a 10.18% increase compared to the 690,951 recorded in April 2025.
As for Brindisi’s Salento Airport, April closed with 330,846 passengers, an increase of 14.67% compared to 288,524 in April 2025.
Finally, the number of passengers arriving and departing in April 2026 from Foggia’s “Gino Lisa” airport was 4,482, while in April 2025 it was 5,624, a decrease of –20.3%.
