In January 2026, the capital’s airport system, consisting of Rome Fiumicino Leonardo da Vinci and Ciampino Giovan Battista Pastine airports, recorded a total traffic of 3.6 million passengers, which corresponds to a 2% increase compared to the same period in 2025.
Rome Fiumicino Intercontinental Airport, Italy’s main airport hub, recorded approximately 3.3 million passengers, an increase of 1% compared to January 2025.
Short- and medium-haul international markets recorded a 3% increase, with continental Europe confirming its position as the geographical area with the highest traffic volumes, up 1% compared to January 2025, driven mainly by EU routes. Africa also performed very well, recording a +28% increase in this segment, particularly Egypt, with volumes up 46% compared to January 2025.
Long-haul traffic increased by 2% year-on-year. North America was the long-haul region with the highest growth (21%), thanks mainly to connections to Dallas and Detroit – which were not available in the same period last year – and routes such as Atlanta, Los Angeles, Toronto, Washington, Boston and San Francisco, which were already operating in January 2025 but saw a significant increase in frequencies in January 2026.
Africa also continued to grow in the long-haul segment, with an increase of 9% compared to January 2025. A notable development in this market was the new ITA Airways connection to Mauritius, launched in November 2025, which further expanded Rome Fiumicino’s intercontinental offering.
Volumes to Central and South America grew by 2% compared to January 2025, driven by the good performance of Brazil (+4%) and, in particular, the route to São Paulo.
Giovan Battista Pastine Airport in Ciampino recorded 330,000 passengers in January 2026.

The Northeast Airport Hub, which includes the airports of Venice, Treviso, Verona and Brescia, handled over 1.2 million passengers in January 2026, an increase of +11% over the previous year.
2026 began with Venice airport exceeding the 700,000 passenger threshold for the first time in January, with a 10.3% increase in traffic compared to January 2025 (+7.3% movements).
The main market is the domestic market, with 147,000 passengers and a 20% share (top domestic destinations: Rome and Catania). Spain, Great Britain and France follow.
The most popular destinations for passengers during the month were London, Paris and Madrid, followed by Barcelona and Istanbul.
Almost 6,000 passengers travelled between Venice and Egypt, thanks to direct connections to Sharm-el-Sheik.
There were almost 40,000 passengers on long-haul routes (New York JFK, Dubai, Doha, Shanghai), with an average load factor of over 80% on all destinations.
Treviso airport handled over 237,000 passengers, with a positive trend of +3.6% compared to the previous year (+18% movements).
The leading market was Spain, with over 50,000 passengers (main destination Valencia). Albania and Romania followed.
The main destinations during the month were Tirana (37,000 passengers), Bucharest and Brussels.
Over 13,000 passengers used the connection to the Czech Republic (Ryanair’s Prague). Almost 10,000 passengers travelled with Ryanair between Treviso and Morocco (Marrakech)
Verona Airport handled over 260,000 passengers during the month, +20.9% compared to January 2025 (+18.8% movements).
The domestic market was the largest, with almost 100,000 passengers, an increase of 8% compared to January 2025, followed by Great Britain (+27% vs ’25) and Albania (+23% vs ’25).
The most popular routes among passengers were Catania, Palermo and London.
Neos, the leading carrier in the leisure segment, handled over 30,000 passengers, more than 50% of whom travelled to long-haul destinations.

In January 2026, the total number of passengers arriving and departing from Bari, Brindisi and Foggia airports was 606,589, an increase of 2.11% compared to the same month in 2025, when the total was 594,054 passengers.
For Bari airport, the total number of passengers, including arrivals and departures, was 439,310, up 4.70% compared to 419,586 in January 2025.
As for Brindisi’s Salento Airport, January closed with 163,068 passengers, a slight decrease of 2.92% compared to 167,972 in January 2025.
Finally, passengers arriving and departing from Foggia’s “Gino Lisa” airport: there were 6,496 in January 2025, while in January 2026 there were 4,207, down 35.24%.
