In September 2025, the capital’s airport system, comprising Leonardo da Vinci Fiumicino and Giovan Battista Pastine Ciampino airports, handled a total of 5.2 million passengers, an increase of 2% compared to the same period in 2024, confirming the growth trend that characterised the month of August.
Rome Fiumicino, in particular, contributed approximately 4.9 million travellers, an increase of 2.3% compared to September 2024.
Continental Europe remained the area with the highest traffic volumes, recording a 2.2% increase compared to the same period last year, while intercontinental traffic grew by 4.4%, driven by North America, which grew by 4% and remained the area with the highest volumes among non-European routes.
Growth also continued for connections with the Arabian Peninsula, which recorded a 7% increase in traffic on an annual basis, supported by Emirates flights to Dubai, with three daily frequencies, and ITA Airways connections to Dubai and Oman Air to Muscat, both absent in the same period last year.
Traffic to Central/South America grew by 8%, with São Paulo among the main destinations.
The performance of long-haul African routes was also very positive, up 6% thanks to the expansion of Ethiopian Airlines’ connections to Addis Ababa and ITA Airways’ connections to Dakar.
Traffic to the Far East increased by 1% compared to September 2024, supported by Cathay Pacific flights to Hong Kong and ITA Airways’ connection to Bangkok, both of which were absent in 2024.
Ciampino’s Giovan Battista Pastine Airport closed September with 327,000 passengers.

In September, almost 1.9 million passengers were handled, in line with the same month of the previous year.
Venice Airport handled 9.1 million passengers in the first nine months of the year and almost 1.2 million in September. Traffic increased by +1.5% compared to the same period in 2024.
The domestic market was the leading market in the reference period, with over 1.8 million passengers (20% of total traffic). The main international markets were Spain, Great Britain, France and Germany.
London, Paris, Madrid, Barcelona and Catania were the most popular destinations for passengers in the first nine months of 2025.
Approximately 850,000 passengers flew directly between Venice and long-haul destinations operating at the airport (United States, Canada, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, China).
According to passenger profile surveys, Marco Polo’s incoming traffic component is 62%.
Treviso airport recorded 2.46 million passengers since the beginning of the year and 287,000 in September. Growth in the first three quarters of 2025 was +5.7%.
The airport’s traffic is mainly international. The main market in the first three quarters was Spain, followed by Albania and Romania.
The main destinations were Tirana, Bucharest and Brussels.
Fourteen per cent of passengers travel to visit relatives and friends (VFR), a figure linked to the range of destinations available to users.
Verona airport recorded 428,000 passengers in September and 3.2 million in the first nine months of the year (+7.8% compared to 2024). This result was also achieved thanks to the new services available to Catullo passengers.
The domestic market remained the main market in the first three quarters of 2025, with over 1.1 million passengers, followed by the UK market and Germany, Spain, Albania and Egypt.
The most popular destinations for passengers were Catania, London, Palermo, Tirana and Cagliari.
The carriers that contributed most to growth in the first nine months of 2025 were Wizz Air, Air France and Jet2.com, which increased their operations during the year.
According to surveys carried out at the airport, frequent flyers (more than seven flights per year) account for 22% of passengers.

In the first nine months of 2025, a total of 8,919,675 passengers (+7.64%) passed through the Apulian airports of Bari, Brindisi and Foggia, compared to 8,286,215 in the same period of 2024.
In September 2025, Bari airport recorded 788,566 passengers (+4.79%) compared to the same month of the previous year. The domestic market recorded 288,346 passengers, while the international market recorded 486,388 passengers. The German market, with 58,000 passengers, is the main international market.
Brindisi Airport recorded 371,420 passengers (+0.71%) in September 2025 compared to September 2024. Domestic traffic recorded 238,080 passengers, an increase of 1.47% compared to the same month in 2024. International traffic recorded 127,458 passengers compared to 130,514 in September 2024, down 2.34%. The main international market was Switzerland with 40,000 passengers.
Foggia Airport recorded 5,800 passengers in September 2025, down 4.92% compared to the same month in 2024.
